Webcam & Headset

I have yet another issue, When i joined i saw the chat rooms that allow webcam's and microphones and connected mine to my laptop but neither one worked i guessed that they were both cheap and nasty so i disconnected both. So i went out and bought a new headset and a new webcam and two days ago i went into one of the webcam rooms only to find that everyone except me had the cam and microphone icon so was wondering are there any particular types of cams or microphones because i've already checked my drivers and laptop configuration and have no problems with either on the desktop so im somewhat stumped.

Probably a silly question here but did you just enter the room without hitting on the webcam icons at the top above where your name is? and it shouldnt matter the age ect because my webcams 6 nearly 7 years old u will get a pop up after that (well i usually do) says allow or deny hit allow and if ya on xp to check ya cams working go on to scanner and webcam but you went out and bought a new one so am thinking they work hope this helped if it hasnt am more than happy to offer more advice am good with computers hehe.

I just entered the room i did not know i had to click on anything. I still struggle with a few things on the site from time to time but i'll get there in the end. I will try what you suggested thank you Midnight.
