OK, before I say anything else, let me first say that I have no problem with folk being religious, no matter which book they follow.
I just don't want them bashing my ears about theirs being better than all the rest.
My own view on religion is that God (if there ever was one) would have said. "Chill out and don't hurt anybody either by word or deed" and that's the creed that I live by.

So, back to the topic.
One thing that always gets religious folk jumping up and down in frustration is when you ask, "How come Jesus had the original recorded birth with all the talk of camels, wise men, presents etc and then nothing for about 25 years?"

Why does the Bible truth attract so much venom if it is so wrong. Just ignore it. As for me and my house, we will worship the Lord and benefit in His loving grace. I never twisted any arms to attend my church. They came as volunteers.

Cheers,

Jim

jim .... a direct response if that's allowed.
I would never dream of telling anyone to stop being religious. It's a personal choice that we all make.
The thing is, and I say this with all due respect, is that my decision NOT to be religious is based on logic and historical evidence from the very early Popes whereas a religious persons belief is usually based on reading a book that was written long after the death of Jesus (Yes, even though I don't believe in God, I still believe that a chap called Jesus walked the streets of Bethlehem and Nazareth doing the things attributed to the "Son of God")

I'm always up for a debate on this subject but I usually find that the religious opponent runs and hides when confronted by a few questions.

Jim .... Just one question for starters then.
You wrote earlier ... "we will worship the Lord and benefit in His loving grace."
Fair comment and it works well but what happens if one of your family should be unlucky enough to get a bad illness, get run over by a bus, get mugged or killed in a shooting accident? How are you then benefiting from his loving grace?

And while I'm here, to answer your earlier question, the Bible (and other holy books) attract so much venom because they are the cause of millions of deaths worldwide.
Can you name one war from the year Dot to 1900 that wasn't down to "My religion is better than yours"? It isn't the book itself that causes the problem. It's the Megalomaniacs that convince the weak that THEIR translation of it is the only TRUE translation.

Proven untruths?
How do you prove God doesn't exist? How do you prove there wasn't a great flood? How do you prove Moses didn't live several hundred years? You can't, So I would suggest they are more like unproven truths. However there are a lot of people and places in the bible that have been corroborated. To call it nonsense is fine, you are more than entitled to your opinion/belief. It does beg the question........................What do you believe in?

For me personally, it's not so much that proof needs to be shown as to why a God figure never existed because, as religious folk often say, there is no PROOF that such a God didn't exist. For me it is more a case of wondering WHY the Christian church denies the physical evidence that is available through modern science to disprove things that the Church takes as fact.
Just ask a knowledgeable religious scholar who Yehoshua ben Pantera and Yehoshua ben Joseph are.

One thing that makes me smile is the way that Christians can laugh at the way in which the Islamic Holy Book has been translated over the centuries, such that the idea that a martyr will be given 72 virgins if he dies in Jihad may actually mean 72 g****s or vines, and yet they find it beyond contempt that any mistranslations could ever have been made when translating the Bible through as many as a dozen different languages to get from the original text to modern day English.
