Post employment agencies

i was wondering if there are any employment agency workers here on the forum?
both the office staff and the temporary workers.

what do you think will happen when the Agency Workers Regulations 2010 come into effect from 1 October 2011?
what practices will change?

i used to be a minimum wage earning temporary agency worker and was amazed by the attitudes of my fellow workers.
they had pretty much accepted 12hour days with no overtime rates. and if they just did 8hours and refused overtime they'd get replaced.
the goal of most of my fellow temps(over half of the workforce) was to prove yourself to the factory managers as a productive worker in the hope that they would give you permanent employment.
i worked there for 6 months and in my time 2 temp workers were made permanent employees. they had both been temps at the factory for over 2 years (with a few months off here and there when work was unavailable).
they were still on minimum wage tho.
the benefits of permanent employment at that particular factory seemed minor to me.
the way the factory used temps created a feeling of fear amongst the workers and they'd do pretty much anything to keep their jobs. i quit that mother****ing ****hole the moment i found a slightly better job.

I have been temping for the past few yrs

At the minute I have been in my current position for 17 months, I dont get treated any differently than anybody else and they include me in everything, there is also rumblings about them making me permanant which would be great.

I have had some crappy jobs tho when u get treated like a piece of shyte, however I just leave and get the agency to get me summat else. Lifes too short to be unhappy considering the amount of time you spend at work.

I should tell you I dont work on shopfloors anymore tho cos they have a terrible reputation for the way they treat temps, i work in office based environments or reception positions which suit me a lot better..... I hate being in a factory environment, I did that yrs ago and worked my way up to shift manager and yes I also treated the temps like crap but then again I did get a few of them full time jobs, its a case of if u work hard and help and actually turn in for work then theres no reason u shuldnt get made perm....
