Talking Olympics

Well i`m not a big sports fan and will usually avoid it at all costs but i am loving the olympics and feel very proud to be British .
Jessica Enis, Rebecca Adlington, Andy Murray and the like have been amazing !

Even though Murray is a Scot he done us proud today and i actually felt myself welling up - those that know me will know this is a rare occurence !

Anyway i just felt the need to say how much i`m loving it.
Toodlepip my lovelies

Sorry to disagree with you on this. I'm not a sports fan at all, and I think the olympics is the worst amongst all the big events bar the world cup. I don't want to disrespect anyone for all the "achievements" they are making in the name of Great Britian, I just hate the way people go mad for the Olympics and then completely ignore the Paralympics. To me the Paralympians are the ones that are making the real achievments here. Running 1500m with no legs...... thats something I think people should be realy proud of! Regardless of nationality, its the Paralympians that are pushing things forward. Theyre making advancements in the name of fair treatment for lesser able bodied people and are envoys of general acceptance across the globe. What advancements are Olympians making?

Oh i completley agree about the paralympics- and i think it`s disgraceful it has been pushed to channel 4 !
All the athletes are amazing and deserve the coverage that`able bodied ` athletes are given .

Thumbs up

i was hating on the olympics cos i like to blame it for ruining our world cup bid.
but now that its here ive been watching it non-stop!
plus ive only watched like 2 halves of football matches (GB vs Senegal) (Brazil vs Honduras)
which i thought would be the only thing i would care about!.
loving archery, trap shooting, track cycling, fencing, badminton basically whatevers on!
sport is awesome!

still il probably be bored of it all by time the paralympics start.

and channel 4 gets it cos they paid the most!

hmm what have these olympians achieved numbnutz?
i think team GB have done more for the country than suspected.
proves we got the talent out there, giving youngsters hope for a future career in a sport they enjoy.
some of these guys were not involved in training for the olympics untill last year!!!
one of the guys who made it to the 100m semis started training in january this year!
also government aint cutting funds for sports!
SPORT IS REALLY ****ING IMPORTANT! if you hate sport i wouldn't be suprised if you hated art too.
i like living in a world with the occasional flourish and colour that great events, like the olympics, can bring us!
without it the world would become even more apathetic and nihilistic
and we'd probably all want to kill each other

Lol
Everyone has their own opinion, no need to start with the personal attacks :P

I can admit the Olympics have brought a lot of outside interest to our country and that may have boosted some trade sectors, but it has been a disruption to many more. I can vouch for this first hand as I work in Logistical development and my role for the last 12 months has been hounded with Olympic and Paralympic impact planning. That’s not all, even after all the planning has been put in place are still seeing a utilisation reduction of 15-20% against past weeks for the South East region. That may sound small fry to you and your thesaurus but a nationwide drop reduction of just 1 despatch per vehicle nationwide would net my current contract a loss year on year somewhere in the region of £1,200,000!!

We’ve already been targeted with a £6 million reduction on outgoings before April 2013 or we face further redundancies. I know the Olympics is only for a few weeks but it is having a big impact!

I never meant to imply that I hated sport. I’m actually a big fan of exercise. I often cycle, hike, play football and occasionally play squash too.
I merely meant to imply that I hate the type of organised or televised sport’s that pit different nations, provinces or even regions against each other. I just don’t think the world is grown up enough to separate the actual sport from all the associated prejudices. Take for example my good high school friend who got stabbed in the back by a rogue football fan just because he was wearing the opposition teams shirt. Was red the splash of colour you were thinking of? And what about the last world cup? Care to enlighten me on how many British Nationals of Caribbean, Indian or Pakistani descent attended those games over fear of racism and retribution?

And yes, channel 4 paid the most for the Paralympics, but that kind of highlights my earlier point that Paralympians are overlooked. The BBC and Sky are rolling in money and yet they didn’t think the Paralympics was worth shelling out for. That isn’t necessarily their fault. They are simply responding the demands of the nation, and as it turns out, the majority of us are only interested in the able bodied athletes. I think that’s quite sad.

I know I might be spouting rubbish to your views on sporting idealism, but as I said before, we are all entitled to our opinions. As far as I’m concerned I’m gonna sit here with my blinkers on until the Paralympics starts, and then cheer on all the athletes, regardless of the medals they win or the country that they hail from. You build those bridges Paralympians!!!!
