Default want to travel from usa to the uk, any tips?

i have never been to the uk before. i am not sure what city i want to visit but i am looking at london. any tips on visiting, transportation, eating, etc on a low budget? any lesser known high lights worth looking for/at? what are the local favorites? i tried to look up local spots away from the the commercial tourist places but i was not successful. what do you recommend for multicultural neighborhoods, foods, music, dancing, museums, etc? what do you recommend for the age groups of teens, young 20's, and older 50's? if you have website links or references, please include them.

thank you.

There are loads and loads of travel guides in hardback and on line for the UK you could look at (e.g Lonely Planet, Travel Advisor, DK Eyewitness Travel ). Perhaps you need to do some further research and then ask more specific questions.

the streets are filled with horrible mutated beings from the nuclear fallout
and at night wild radioactive beasts roam the land devouring all who stay out after dark
