Thumbs up

I have a LOT of books.Books are brilliant, way better than films. You don't have to miss anything if you suddenly get hungry,or need the loo.You can identify better with the characters in a good book, and can spend many a happy hour with like minded friends discussing who you'd cast!Nobody coughing or rustling crisp bags,or tripping over your legs during a good bit....and no lanky bugger in front of you gets between you and the page. But the best bit is how much deeper you are involved. You control how fast you read it..and how vividly you picture the scene. It's often better the second time around, understanding more,or seeing something you missed the first time. Some books I read so often it's like an annual catch up with my friends!!

I read a lot and watch a lot of films. The Harry Potter films are amazing and really bring the books to life.

It needs to be remembered that when a film is made based on a book that because the book is often a great deal longer than a film can incorporate that chunks will be edited hence many saying the film was crap or the book was crap!

It really does depend on each individual film and book. Some are great some not.

definetley a book is better- i love reading, the films always disappoint.

I also read the book the Beach. I thought it was ok, but couldn't get my head around some of the plot at the time. I didn't like that they changed the story in the film to make some of it look romantic. Urgh.

Also, I read Queen of the Damned by Anne Rice. I absolutely loved this book, even tho it's about vampires. In fact, it's part of the trilogy(am I correct about this) including interview with a vampire. I can't describe how great the plot and story was of this. However, I also can't describe the disappointment of the film. When you read the book, you understand the biggest challenge the film faced, which isn't THAT big a challenge when you consider that movies like Love Actually, Valentines Day and Noel seem to manage it ok. (I'm trying not to spoil the book).

I also feel disappointed at the Harry Potter movies. I expected more magic, more colour (yes, I frigging hate the darkness and spookiness of the whole thing, when kids are expected to go see it). I also hate the blooming pointless 5 min emotional scenes Emma Watson gets, or the teenager love plots that take 10 mins, whereas magic battles get like 2 shoots of sparkles and then it's all over. Do we need like 5 mins intro of a train with the harry potter theme tune if we have cut scenes at the juicy bits and plots not even being joined??? I shouldn't think so.

I have the book and dvd of interview with a vampire. I have seen the film before, but I watched the dvd recently and cried, and because I haven't read the book to the end I don't want to read it at all. I feel that the sadness would be too much when I read it, and the book would get tear stained in the process.

I've read Pride and Prejudice. I had seen a bit of the Colin Firth movie version of it on the tv, but I haven't seen it from the beginning to the end yet. I also seen a bit of the version with Keira Knightley in it, but I don't like the actor she plays alongside, and I wasn't content with the way she was playing the character!!

I read the girl with a pearl earring before watching the film. Stunning, and I can only fault 1 thing about the film to the book.(I *think* the girl is supposed to have a different shade of hair, but I could be wrong.). Otherwise, I find it amazing to watch, knowing it's not deviated away from the original story.
