depends....what kind of living arrangement will you have for it? Will it be alone most or all of the day? Are kids in the house? Do you want a lap dog or a big dog? One to travel with etc?

you caqn then narrow down to many choices.....

I would always have a labrador or a retriever but like any dog they do take a lot of looking after. Have you thought about getting a 'rescue' dog? Staff at rescue homes can give you the lowdown on the dog, but most organsiations will visit your home etc to make sure you are set up for a dog. It's a bit like adoption!

We had a rescue dog a few years back and it was a disaster, when we went to look and then choose, were paired up with a lovely border collie. He was great on the lead and so loveable we had to take him home and after the checks to make sure the house was suitable off we went. At the animal shelter I was assured he was excellent with children (my child was 6 at the time) and ok with other dogs and animals........wrong!!!!!!!! Within a few days of having him he would bear his teeth and growl at me if I went anywhere near my daughter and he terrorised our poor cats. Living up a lane to a farm was the worse place possible as he got out and upset the sheep (along with the farmer) who threatened to shoot him. I persevered for a futher 3 weeks thinking he just needed time to settle but it got worse so in the end had to take him back. He should never have been rehomed with children or animals so just be extra carefull if you go down the adoption route as you only have their word for how the animal behaves.... Good luck in your dog search... :-)

If you have alergies poodles are good
But I once saw a big guy calling after his poodle "Renoir he yelled, Renoir." O k, so that wasn't the most manly look I've ever seen

Default Best type of dog

There are no 'best types'. They are all different, offer diffreent things and have differeetn needs, bit like us really. You should considere life style though and how active you are, although i tie mine to a tread mill, and he gets to walk as much as he likes (joking)!
