What should I do with Mr Duck?
I live in a village that has a duck pond. About a fortnight ago, whilst visiting my parents (they live overlooking the duck pond) I spotted a duck who couldn't walk. I caught the duck and took him to the vet, who said it looked like he had an infection in his leg joint. He gave him a strong antibiotic jab and asked me to bring him back in 5 days.... and said that if he wasn't walking by then it would be kinder to put him to sleep. I took him back in 5 days, he still wasn't walking, but the vet noticed that he was a lot better in himself and so gave him another jab and told me to come back in another 5 days... once again, he said that if he still wasn't walking it will be kinder to put him down. I haven't taken him back yet because other than his leg he is OK, and I don't want him to die :'(
I'm so soft. Is my softness unkind?? Mr Duck is living in my kitchen at the moment, he sits on a towel during the day with water and food within reach (which he eats). I put him in a box with hay, food and water overnight. He stiill can't walk, he stands up on one leg occasionally, but is otherwise pretty immobile.
Is it kinder to let the vet put him to sleep? Other than his leg he is OK.... he eats, drinks... but obv he can't live the natural life he should.
By trying to be kind am I being cruel?
I am so sentimental when it comes to animals which is why I'm asking you guys.
