Hi everyone,
Sorry but I don't know where else to post this question! I was wondering whether anyone had any suggestions as to what might be causing my swollen ankles and lower legs. I am 43 years old and am in good health except having a chronic painful hip. I have a heart murmur diagnosed 8 year ago, but this has caused me no problems and I'm on no medications for it. My GP did a blood test which has excluded a DVT, but he has put me on a mild water tablet, which has confused me bit as I don't know of anyone my age who has swollen ankles or who is on water tablets! I do have HRT implants to control menopausal symptoms since having a hysterectomy and ovaries removed 9 years ago. My last implant was done in November 2008 and I've never been bothered by any kind of fluid retention in the past! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated! Many thanks x |

hi smellydrain, i most certainly will get a 2nd opion from another doctor| i don't trust those that just give ***** without founding out the cause for this condition. it is not normal and at 43 u most certainly shud not get swollen legs and anckles unless there is a reason for it. hope u get better soon and wud like to hear from u.

circulation youd be amazed at where all your arterys veins and capiliaries go and youve got big ones of eveything near your ankles probably the most exposed area in the body for them you will get water retention from hrt and water goes down your feet and ankles and legs are the down im afraid all u can do is take the tablets and when at rest elevate the legs and feet so they are not the down part of your body gravity eh? it was all good till isaac newton discovered it what a twat we could all be floating right now if it wasnt for him

my wife has had same issues but only on ankles since she was 20. there are a number of reasons and only a proper diagnosis from an examination will get correct results such as a blood test.
look up swollen ankles and calves online using a search engine such as google. the water tablets treat a symptom not the cause. hormones, chemicals, alcohol, allergies and so on can have an effect and each individual will be different. The water tablets will help the body excrete more fluid but it wont stop or pinpoint the cause. age can also be a factor. have a read and then pop back to see doctor and ask for a reason if possible. many GP's take easy way out and prescribe a drug I would not suggest for a moment it had anything to do with saving costs on the doctors budget. |
