Reasonable use of capital letters in chat.

Deltagirl muted and booted me twice this evening because I used capital letters to begin a sentence - usually considered to be correct when typing or writing in the English language - and capitalised the title of a rubbish film that I watched earlier this evening when mentioning it in the room. I mean to say, I typed something along the lines of: "Pretty rubbush, Raging Sharks" - in Tara's Room. The film, Raging Sharks, was a crappy film on SciFi Channel. Deltagirl booted me because she deemed this to be using capital letters. Yes, I used capital letters, but as this in an English language chat I didn't assume that this meant that one couldn't begin a sentence with a capital letter or capitalise - i .e. type the first letter of each word of the title - the title(s) of books, films, albums etc that one wished to discuss in the chat. Could somebody in admin clarify this, please? I don't mind saying that I am really rather annoyed for having been booted for typing in correct English. I would like to stress that I did not type whole words or sentences in caps - e.g. CAPS CAPS CAPS. When re-admitted to the room, I typed - in lower case letters - that I disagreed with Deltagirl's decision and that I would seek to clarify this with the site administrators. Deltagirl muted and then booted/banned me again. I find her actions really rather ridiculous and over-the-top.

I chat here regularly and have many friends here. I would like to make the point that chatrooms like this rely on regulars chatters to create an ambience, a community. It does rather damage the community when regular chatters - who don't offend others - are hauled-up for such "digressions". I find it highly offensive and take exception to the fact that I have been temporarily banned from particular rooms because I choose to type in correct English. How can this be against the rules?

In conclusion, I must most respectfully state that I think Deltagirl is somwhat overzealous in her personal interpretation of the chat's rules. I would like the site adminsitrators to clarify the rules and advise Deltagirl that it is pefectly acceptible - as I will always quite reasonably believe it to be - to begin sentences with capital letters and, where appropriate, use capital letters when mention the titles of films, books, songs, albums etc.

i have warned u on numerous occasions about the use of capitol letters..you are the only chatter in the cam room to use any capitol letters..as for being over zealous, i fell i have been very patient with you in this matter..all u have to do is leave your caps off..but no..u just carry on oblivious to woc`s rules and thats why i muted u on 2 occasionsand then finally kicked u out...when u returned all u wanted to do was argue the point..i warned u about this but u persisted and so i muted you and then kicked u out for arguing..yes u do do have a few friends here but they dont use any caps so why should you??..there are other chatters here too that dont like disturbances and i dont treat any chatter differently to you porter..i feel you think you have some special dispensation from woc`s rules hence your self opinionated monologue youve written..just leave the caps out porter like everybody else does..they are not needed or part of woc`s rules..deltagirl

Delta, I started a sentence with a capital letter and used a capital letter when typing the title of a film in the chatroom. I do not feel that I am somehow exempted from following the rules of the chat. I merely resent being banned from the room for typing in proper English and using a capital letter to start a sentence or when typing the name of a book, film, song etc. No other moderator has ever expressed any concern about this or asked me not to do so. It's only you that has ever asked me to stop doing so. Can you explain why it is only you who seems to have a problem with this? I repeat, no other moderator or host has ever told me that I cannot begin a sentence with a capital letter.


The rules relating to use of capital letters, as featured on the site, are as follows:

DO NOT Use capital letters in the room, this is equivalent to shouting

(I think most people would reasonably understand this to mean that one shouldn't type entire words or sentences in capital letters.)

When you enter the chat room, say hello to everyone and announce your age gender and location when asked, its generally a good idea to mention this. DONT USE CAPITAL letters as this is considered shouting.

I would have thought that that made it clear THAT USING CAPITAL LETTERS LIKE THIS is what the rules are intended to stop people from doing. I find that perfectly reasonable, but you're being plain ridiculous by muting me or barring me from the room because I begin a sentence with a capital letter. How can beginning a sentence with a capital letter be construed as "shouting"? I think you're being overzealous and misinterpreting the rule(s). I still wish to try to clarify this with the site administration.

firstly porter i have no intentions of trying to "persuade" admin to ban you..admin do what they want to do and they are not persuaded by any chatter or host...i asked you to join me in the lounge earlier to try and see sense about all of this..all u wanted to do was to complain about being muted and booted..which i explained to you in my first conversation..feel free to send any "transcript" of our conversation to admin..becos i know u are trying to make a mountain out of a molehill..lets look into your other "transcript" of the chat in taras cam room..firstly i ask u to look back at my first conversation in the forums where i told u i was very patient with you about your capital letters...i applied the same patience to clik but what your "transcript" failed to include was that i asked clik politely to stop using anymore caps..he then said his iphone always started with a capital letter to which i replied..disable it then plz..he moaned a little but he did stop..unlike you porter!..he then carried on in his normal amusing manner without becoming seemingly obsessive over the matter like u have porter...dont try to use selective wording to try and prove a point porter..or will you reply by saying..i didnt see that delta...but remember clik knows and the rest of the chatters here tonight..iam going to speak to mr woc soon as i told you porter..to ask his advice on this becos all of this obsessive writing of yours might..in my opinion only..cause an unrest with our chatters..porter just get back to the nice guy i knew and lets have some fun again while we are on woc..deltagirl

Keep YOUR CAPS LOCK OFF while in the chat room, its that simple, I am not interested in your opinion of the site and how it should be run, or your opinion of our hosts, or any more of your rediculous petty argument.
