Hi guys

After another disapointing day yesterday, having to ban a few more regular chatters, i would like to add a clear explaintion as to why we feel strongly about this issue

This is going to be my last post about exchanging emails and phone numbers on World of Chat, I would like to point out once more, don’t do this in the room in private or over Wocchat.com, it will get you BANNED from both sites !

I will endeavour to explain why we don’t let people exchange details on this site, as some people seem to think this is harsh, I would clearly like to point out, this isn’t a punishment at all this is the way we have chosen to run our website, and if you can’t respect our rules then please don’t come in here.

The only reason people think this is ok, is because it’s been happening on other websites for years, It seems part of chat room culture now to exchange details, this wasn’t always so and has had an effect on chat rooms, it has changed chat rooms from places where people chat, to places where people hunt for people to get details from, this isn’t what chat rooms are about.

I can’t explain how frustrating it is to create a safe community for people and the first thing people want to do, is try to take people away from it and in some ways you might think that sounds selfish, but not really, as no one is forced to stay on World of Chat, people always have a choice and how would a community function without any users, it simply wouldn’t

I accept that *** Messenger is a great program as are face book, but they are separate to World of Chat and Wocchat.com, if you want to use *** messenger and facebook then use them, and dont come in here talking about them, as i bet you dont go on about World of Chat when your on *** or facebook do you !

We also recently had a situation where someone left World of Chat, and a user wasn’t allowed to exchange details with this person to keep in touch with them, I accept this is an unfortunate backlash to our rules, but not something that can be helped, as there are 2 ways to run a chat room, 1 you either leave it as a free for all for people to exchange details all over thus ending up like every other chat room, (also very little point having a chat room) or 2 you stop it altogether and try to provide a place for people to chat.

World of Chat is an online community, this means that everyone who takes part in the website is part of the same site, one community it’s not about separating into different groups, I accept that some people don’t want that and that fine, but you are wasting your time on World of Chat !

The important thing about an Online community is the word ONLINE, it’s all online, it’s not about meeting people, it’s not about finding peoples phone numbers, it’s about finding people online with the same sense of humour and finding a place to let your hair down, chat and have fun, without the pressures of people hassling you for your email address, phone number or a picture, or any of those distractions.

Often people who have used other chat rooms are shocked by how friendly our site is, there is one reason for this, and it’s because World of Chat is different, the rules protect people from the idiots and nutters out there so people can relax more.

World of Chat is run completely different to any other website, there are 1000s of chat rooms out there, most chat rooms are not even about chat at all, they are just places where people exchange details, this is NOT a chat room, that is a dating site !

Most chat rooms are just a place where people spam the room with their email address, or ask for peoples phone numbers, or go on about face book if some of you go try these other websites, you will appreciate how good World of Chat is, as you won’t get the kind of protection you get at World of Chat.

If you looking for people to meet in real life and your single and looking for a girlfriend, then use a DATING site, that what they are for, if you are looking for people to talk to on the phone or people to text, try a phone service or a texting service.

So if you are looking for any of the above, World of Chat is not for you, you need to find somewhere else to chat and do this kind of stuff, there are so many other sites that cater for people who want to exchange personal details.

I agree with everything you said Mr Woc but I have a question I'd like to ask please.

There are times when people on a forum form friendships with another member/s. Over the weeks/months they find they really get along with that person and would love to take the friendship off the internet and correspond via emails etc. I'm talking simple friendship here nothing to do with dating.

I made a couple of women friends this way. We have never met due to the distance they live from me, but we correspond regularly via email. Bit like penpals only we don't write letters to each other just emails.

As you are talking about people exchanging personal details in the chat room, I wondered if you allow people to PM their email addy from the forum or would accept that people contact you first to ask if could ask the other person if they would like to exchange email addresses or is exchanging email addresses anywhere a bannable offence?

No i am talking about exchanging emails anywhere on our sites, as if we say you can trade emails via private message via the forums or chat room, then people just do that and then theres little point having the rule anyway !

You can keep in contact with people via the live chat room at World of Chat, the World of Chat forums, and we also have a messaging system at [url=http://www.wocchat.com]Free online chat rooms, wocchat community[/url] where people can email each other, so there is no need to exchange details !

this room rules or should that be rocks, as a woman i have had more than enough of men of varying ages deciding i'm fair game and trying to IM me, when all i wanted to do was have a nice fun peaceful chat with the friends i have made online over the past 6 years, not that i'm adverse to some lighthearted flirting <GRIN>

and what happened when the so called admin in that room were informed "oh just ignore them" well coming into these rooms to find if someone is over the top they are booted at once is utter bliss to me, so thanks woccy and all of the team.

i was saddened to find after a few days away someone that i had begun getting to know had been banned, but rules are there for a reason not to be abused or flouted no matter if the intention was good or not...maybe some of these people should actually READ the rules first might save em a lot of grief, not to mention us in the room or your good selves telling em they are total pillocks and to go read the rules, 10 seconds before they break them and are booted out.....here's to many happy years in your chat room...your going to retire on me now aren't you ROFL
