One of the reasons chat rooms are so popular today is because of somthing called msn chat, this chat room was massive in its time it started out with a really basic comic chat format, which was quite funny as you owned a little face and you talked to other little faces lol.
This was finally done away with and replaced with the more popular msn chat look, this was incredibly successful, with over 20,000 users online at one time, which is massive.
On October 14th 2003 msn took the decision to close their chatrooms due to fears that children were using the chat rooms, it was a very brave decision as im sure it was making microsoft lots of money, childrens charlitys branded this as a revalation which i find a bit confusing as msn chatrooms have been replaced by other chat rooms that are now run half as well and half as safely so i fail to see how it solved the problem it just moved it somwhere else !
You could however still chat using the room via the msn groups page, if you created an msn group you could still open your own chat room and invite your friends to join, in 2006 the chat rooms were also removed from msn groups as msn said it was no longer profitable so msn is now condemed to the past lol, there are some providers out there still using the msn chat software, but it does now look dated and will never replace msn chat of the 90s.
Msn legacy still lives on though, as many of the ideas i found on msn chat were used in the making of world of chat.

I was reading a comment the other day on a website from a concerned parent, who was having problems with her child accessing chat rooms while the parent wasnt present and was asking for some sort of technical solution for this.
As im sure there are some solutions for this problem of a technical nature, i do not belive parents should be relying on these things, parents should not leave their children on the pc alone, they should be supervised, do not rely on a piece of software to monitor your child in chat rooms.
Chat rooms for the most part are safe, but you have to consider that when somone going into a chat room they are potentially inviting countless people into their home.
If you are a parent you need to familarise youself with your pc and take precautions not to let your child use your pc, even if it means confiskating the keyboard, leave the pc in a room where everyone can see the pc and dont let your child have the pc in their room, if they do have access to the pc in their room do not let them have access to the net !!
There are a few ways you can do this the best way to do this is to put a password onto your pc so when the pc starts it asks for a password.
I am off the opinion that children should not use chat rooms , I dont think i would let my children or ducks on chat rooms on the net, but thats just my opinion i have known people who have let their children suft the net safely so it can be done.

I have been looking for a new firewall to reccommend to people who log into our chat and i have managed to find a really good free one, zonealarm is always a good solution.
The new one i have found is called Comodo and no its not a nightgown type garment you wear before bed lol !!!
It will keep your pc safe from nastys and enable you to chat securly

There are so many people on chat rooms that seem to just come on and vent their rage at everything nowadays and then they wonder why they get kicked out of the chat room lol.
Well there is a name for this its called chat room rage or web rage, its very similar to road rage and the symptoms are the same, aggressive bad behaviour, picking fights, being unreasonable and a problem with authority.
There has even been a case when 2 people had exchanged insults over the internet even threats to kill, the attacker knew where the other person lived and went around to his house armed with a pickaxe handle and took his freind with him too who had a machete. The man was unhurt but the police were called and he went thru a v scary experiance as you can imagine.
This surely highlights the dangers of chat rooms and chat room rage and also points out the dangers of telling somone where you live or giving out personal details.
First of all dont exchange insults over the internet you never know if this might come back to haunt you, if you feel chat room rage coming on then you should log off and go for a break straight away.
Also dont be stupid enough to give your personal details out to strangers, there is always going to be somone who is trying to pick a fight or wind you up, the trick is to ignore it and be nice to people.

I have come across a few articles on the net suggestings that chat rooms are addictive, which would suggest if you didnt use chat rooms you would suffer from some withdrawel symptoms !!
There are a list of symptoms that you can use to tell if you may be addicted
1) Are you pre occupied by the internet and constantly thinking about it, or thinking about your next session on the net
2) Have you made attempts to try to stop going online, or tryed to cut back on using the net
3) Do you feel restless and depressed when trying to cut down or stop using the net
4) Do you stay on the net longer than you intended to
5) Has your net use got in the way of work or your relationships
6) Do you use the internet to escape your problems or change your mood

It seems the chat room world has gone big brother 8 crazy lol, seems everyone is creating big brother themes on their sites !! I hope the big brother fever passes so people can concentrate on online chatting once more lol
I might as well change my name to big brother for the time being lol as thats all anyone seems interested in !!!
From what ive seen so far it all seems a bit boring, and i havnt really got into it yet and its not even on sat night which is a bit strange

Do free chat rooms exist anymore, i have looked more and more and there seems to be less chat rooms than ever now and the other chat rooms that are left behind seem to be of low quality or dont seem to have any hosts whats so ever.
When i put free chat rooms into google all i ever get is a load of dating sites which i bet dont even have chat rooms, i feel that this is misleading the customer and google should do somthing about it, usually these sites are trying to get you to sign up to their site and will then try to tempt you with offers to join up to their site.
I might even write a page about this as i find it v annoying lol.
