Know your Browser - Browser Wars

Hi there Guys

Here are a few shorthanded phrases i use in this

ISP - Internet service provider - the people you get your internet from, blueyonder for example
IE - Internet Explorer - The most popluar browser used as its provided with Windows

Do any of you know what browser you use to get onto world of chat ?

Im guessing thats a no lol, well you should know as its important, you might be thinking what is a browser, well a browser is a bit of software that allows you to interact with internet sources over the net, for example to look at webpages, download files etc.

Why is this important ?

It is important for many reasons, the first of all compatablilty, some browsers without being blunt are crap, and will cause you endless problems and heartache you can well do without.

How do I know what im using ?

If you open a webpage on your pc, then goto the help menu right at the top of your browser screen and then go down to about, it should tell you what browser you are using.

As a suggestion I would stick to Internet Explorer 6, IE7 isnt very good at the moment, I also use Firefox too as a backup if I have any problems with IE. If you dont have any problems with IE7 then I would stick to it, but bear in mind it isnt faultless.

You can find the IE button by just clicking onto the blue E icon, confusion can somtimes start when your internet provider start putting links on your desktop, try to avoid using these they will only confuse you.

Browser Branding

Now this is where it gets confusing, when you install software from your ISP you will notice that right across the top of your browser window, it will say Internet explorer provided by blueyonder, for example this is just browser branding and not somthing you need to worry about.

Watch out for Isp Browsers

Now there is somthing you need to look out for, somtimes when you install software you get from your isp, they sometimes contain their own browser, now these browsers are to be avoided like the plauge, as they are not good, for example BT have their own browser Yahoo, Tiscali and of course AOL.

It will have installed itself when you installed the software you got from your isp, and will just use it as default without even asking you, when you goto help and about from your browser menu, it will say somthing like Yahoo Explorer, or AOL browser.

Dont use them, make sure your using your internet explorer or if you have Firefox, use Firefox.
