Hi guys

Im sure many people have problems finding free chat rooms nowadays, as many of the google listings are dominated by chat rooms that belong to big hitting chat sites, or chat sites that have cornered the listings.

Im sure many of you stumbled accidentally on our chat room, well there is a website called Stumble Upon that lets you stumble sites, or bookmark them for others to find on the net.

Its part of a new range of websites called Social Bookmarking, which is just telling people some of your favourite sites that you use on the net.

What do I do

All you need to do is goto http://www.stumbleupon.com and download the toolbar and install it (yes its safe)

It will install a new toolbar on your internet explorer (the big blue E), on this toolbar there is a little thumb icon, all you need to do then, is goto a site you want to suggest to stumble upon as a bookmark, and press the thumb icon, fill out the information and submit your bookmark !

You can stumble upon any site or any webpage, so install the toolbar and stumble away, you could start by stumbling our chat room of course and wocchat.com.

The more people stumble the same website the more votes it will get and the more popularity it will gain within stumble upons website.

Hi guys

I’m not sure if any of you saw Watchdog last night, but they had a report on about social networking sites and how they are being used to target identity fraud.

Sites like Facebook and Myspace are being targeted, as people are innocently putting information on their pages that fraudsters can use to create dummy bank accounts.

So if you can be careful what information you do give out, the program advised people to not give out your date of birth, so you might want to change this on any of your profiles within World of Chat or Wocchat.com.

World of Chat is pretty safe as far as many chat rooms go, as we try our best to protect you from people like this, so please be careful with your personal details, for example telling people exactly where you live, and your surname.

Hi guys

Im not really sure whats going on with the room at the moment, but the quality of the chat has been terrible, there seems to be a few people who are just using the room as a waiting room.

I will do somthing about it, if it continues, because its spoiling the room and the people who make the effort, are starting to notice too.

So when you come in the room contribute, dont just say hi and bye then go idle, your likley to get youself booted otherwise !

Hi guys

I do seem to have been bombarded with questions when Ive been in the room lately, if you need help can you please post on the forums, either the Woc forums here http://www.worldofchat.co.uk/Forum/ or Wocchat forums here http://www.wocchat.com/index/page/forum, they are checked daily for this reason.

It makes if very difficult for me to do 2 things at once, if people just bombard me with questions, when its easier to answer a well worded question on the forums.

Also if it goes on the forums people who experiance the same problem, can learn too !

Hi guys

I have managed to get a simple tool on woc, that will resize most pictures you can find it here http://www.worldofchat.co.uk/resize/pictureresizing.php

Unfortunatly it doesnt work with BMP files just yet, so you will have to convert these to jpegs or gifs, before you can resize them with the tool provided.

If you having problems putting profiles on the chat room, its likely that they are too big so its a good idea to try resizing them.

Hi guys

I have now added some basic chat forums to www.wocchat.com now, to make the site a bit more interesting.

I know world of chat has its own forums, but for the people who enjoy using wocchat I thought it would add some extra fun and incentive for people to check back to the site.

If a few of you could post that would be great, you need to goto the people section and the forum link is from there.

Hi guys

As somone mentioned on the chat room last night, its not a good idea to put your postcode into sites.

I did originally take the postcode field off the profiles on http://www.wocchat.com/, but it seems to have made its way back on, not sure why im sure we caught the problem early enough to cause any problems to anyone.

You guys might want to make sure your surname, doesnt show anywhere either.

So I have removed it again now, so hopefully no ones postcode is on display anymore.

Hi guys

I have seen the word Bot mentioned in the chat room more than once, some of you might well be wondering what a bot is.

Well bot is short for robot, robots can be quite good things in fact World of Chat has a small bot, that puts up the messages in the chat room.

Unfortunatly they can be abused also, anyone who uses Yahoo Chat or Aol Chat would know that, as their chat rooms have been plagued by users putting robots into their chat rooms, these robots pretend they are human and then try to get the user to visit their website.

The bots can pm and talk in a chat room, making them seem real, they usually say things like, anyone got a cam ? or anyone up for fun ? so beware !

These websites are often adult sites, some even have viruses or trojans, so bots can be really bad, they are also very annoying as the person who set up the bot, doesnt have to be there, you can set the bot up and just leave it to do its own thing.

Action should be taken against the users that set up these bots in chat rooms, if somone took legal action against them, they would soon stop !

Hi guys

After just hearing on the news about someone who had their pay pal account hacked, I thought I would post and just warn people about staying safe online.

Chat rooms have in the past been abused by hackers, as it can give people an opportunity to exchange email addresses and from there exchange files over something like msn messenger, and take advantage of someone who isn’t really aware of the dangers online.

The problem with exchanging files over something like msn messenger, is unless you know what to look for, you cant 100% tell if this file is save, there have been occasions in the past, where people have been send Trojans over msn messenger, which give the person access to your pc and also everything you type on your keyboard.

It turns out the hacker logged all the users Pay pal details and logged into their account and sent money to their own account, without the original Pay pal users knowing.

So if you chat online you need to be careful, while you are in World of Chat, you are safe, as our site has no spy ware, or viruses on our site.

If you move away from World of Chat, then you are not longer under our protection.

If you want to protect yourself, make sure you have a good firewall, virus protection and spy ware protection.

This should keep your online chat a lot safer.
