We have had the web-cam chat rooms for a while now, I just thought I would write something about them on my blog.
If the webcam users can please stick to the watershed rule that would be great !
Also web-cam users could make it easier for admin by not letting people view your webcam, unless they have a webcam too !
As this doesnt encourage these users to get their own cams or indeed turn their webcam on and some of these users indeed badger other users to see their cam.
Ask users without cams to put their webcam on, and then you will let them view your webcam.
If you do deny someone, it will constantly refuse the user, until you close the chat and reload that chat.
If you do have problems with anyone in the cam rooms or problems with your cam then please post on the forums.

There is probably going to be a chat room update next week sometime, this is going to tackle some of the current problems we are starting to have with the chat room.
With people just sitting in the room and private messaging everyone in the room, these are all problems we are aware of and are open to ideas that will help resolve this issue!

It seems that lycos chat is indeed closing on the 1st only to become Noesis chat !

As part of this agreement, your existing chatname and account content, for example your Logbook Messages and photos will remain.Should you not accept the Terms and Conditions for the new provider by 1.3.2009, we will close your account and delete all of the content and access rights stored in connection with your Chat account, based on the statutory specifications.

So it seems users are going to have to accept new terms and conditions, it doesnt say if the urls are going to change though, as the urls all point to yahoo chat, it should be interesting to see what happens on the 1st of Feb.

Its been on the grape-vine for a while now that Lycos chat could well close, it does appear in statements made by Lycos a lot of Lycos services will stop Feb 1st., including forums and message boards.
Even tripod is going which gave web sites free hosting, which takes me back to the days of designing my first website, it was crap but it was free lol !
Having looked at lycos chat Ive noticed a different name has appeared on the site, so I am unsure as to if someone else has purchased the chat rooms. So it may well continue for the time being
Lycos chat is somewhat dated now, and hasn’t been updated for many years, so its little surprise it may well close, a lot of lycos services have suffered from the same problem, little change and little innovation.
Will be interesting to see what happens on Feb 1st as Lycos was one of the big hitters at one point.

You will need to register to get into this chat room, and you will need to make sure you have the latest version of flash player, which at the moment is version 10.

As some of you have noticed we have added video chat rooms to our website, it was never something we planned to do, but the opportunity arose after our recent upgrade to a new server, which is a lot faster than anything we have ever had before.
The cam chat rooms have been running for about a week now, we felt that adding them would add a little extra to the site, this has proved to be true, as the cam chat has added a different dimension to the site, and has been great fun for the people taking part.
I accept that some people are probably not happy about the addition of cams on the chat rooms, but there are free rooms without cams on them, we certainly wont be having lots of rooms with the cam facility enabled.
Ideally one maybe two chat rooms at a push, they are curently being used in the lounge.
We felt we needed to add the cams to our chat room, as other web sites have this facility as standard now, so we really had to add them to compete with these sites, and we were not 100% comfortable with the idea at the time, but it does seem to have worked out for the time being.

These kind of chat rooms are sometimes called avatar chat rooms, they can be quite good fun if you can get a few people in there, we don’t expect it to be a massive part of our chat site, but it should provide a little lighthearted fun for people.
